The Hope Alliance’s upcoming Night Vision Fundraiser is looking toward the future.

The humanitarian nonprofit, which specializes in eye exams and providing glasses for those who need them but don’t have the resources, will unveil its new mobile vision clinic that will help expand free eye care throughout Utah during the Aug. 23 at the Weedon Family Ranch.

Registration is open at secure.qgiv.com/event/nightvision2025.
“We’re going to introduce our vision van we’re putting together,” said Hope Alliance Executive Director Diane Bernhardt. “The van will allow us to travel around and do pop-up clinics, which will help us do things more efficiently.”

Hope Alliance was established 26 years ago in Park City. Originally, the alliance provided medical, dental and vision services internationally, but executive director Diane
Bernhardt said the focus later changed to just vision care.

Services are now provided both locally and internationally.

“Here in Utah, we have a permanent clinic within the People's Health Clinic,” Bernhardt said on “The Local News Hour” Wednesday. “We also have a permanent clinic within the Moab Free Health Clinic, which is analogous to our People's Health Clinic. And we practice in Guatemala, Mexico, Uganda and last year, also Tanzania.”

The organization will host its signature fundraising event, "Night Vision," on Friday, August 23, at the Weedon Ranch in White Pine Canyon. Tickets are $200.

Hope Alliance rolls out new van to deliver free eye care across rural Utah

PARK CITY, Utah — Hope Alliance will unveil its new mobile eye‑care clinic designed to bring free exams and glasses to schoolchildren and rural residents during its Night Vision gala on Aug. 23 at the Weedon Family Ranch.

“We want to go to where the patients are,” Executive Director Diane Bernhardt said. “Public transportation isn’t always convenient and families share cars. The van lets us set up a full clinic in a school parking lot or at a health fair instead of asking parents to take time off work.”

The donor‑funded vehicle will carry two complete pop‑up clinics loaded with portable versions of the same equipment found in Hope Alliance’s fixed sites inside the People’s Health Clinic in Park City and the Moab Free Health Clinic. “We have wait lists we’d like to diminish, so this gives us more capacity,” Bernhardt said. The van took its first supply run to Moab in June; interior build‑outs and snow tires are still needed.

Park City-based nonprofit Hope Alliance now has a larger footprint in Park City schools — allowing the organization to serve more kids with vision essentials.
Established over 25 years ago, the organization is dedicated to providing vision care to underserved communities worldwide. Its international reach touches countries such as Uganda, Guatemala and Mexico.
Locally the organization has two vision clinics: one in Park City, at the peoples health clinic, and the other in Moab where they have had an ongoing program with the Grand County School District.

The Hope Alliance has something big to celebrate for its 25th anniversary.
The nonprofit that provides sustainable support to underserved communities by providing vision care and eyeglasses has sold out its Night Vision fundraiser that is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 23, at the Pendry Plaza at Canyons Village.
“We sold out three weeks after tickets went on sale,” said Associate Executive Director Stacey Lipton. “It’s been wonderful to have that type of support from the community.”
Although the event is sold out, people who weren’t able to register can still participate and support the organization online, according to Lipton.

One by one, preschool children at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Park City held hands with an adult and trundled wide-eyed into a classroom set up to test their vision.
They didn’t know this, of course, only that the grownups awaiting them seemed friendly. Each in their turn sat small in a chair as a young woman kneeled next to them with a chart of shapes.
“What’s this?”
“Apple,” the child declared.
“Good! And this?”
“Casa!”
And some others they didn’t have names for.
“That’s a square,” the volunteer said.

Park City nonprofit resumes international vision clinics

A local nonprofit dedicated to providing vision for all will resume overseas expeditions this summer for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic began – and Parkites are invited.
Hope Alliance, an organization that strives to provide vision care and eyeglasses for people worldwide, is seeking volunteers for three projects in Latin America and Africa later this year. The first vision expedition, scheduled for August, will benefit people living in the remote regions of Panajachel, Guatemala near Lake Atitlan.
For Dell Fuller, the board chair of Hope Alliance, it’s exciting to get back into international humanitarian work after three years.
Fuller became involved with the Park City nonprofit – founded in 2001 – over a decade ago. He was seeking new ways to become involved in the community when he was asked to go on a vision expedition with Hope Alliance. The invitation came at the right time in Fuller’s life.
Guest editorial: There is a health care gap in Park City. Thankfully, dedicated Parkites are trying to close it

Park City, Utah. The name evokes snow, sparkling celebrities, gorgeous athletes, outdoorsy locals, forward thinking arts and government. Yet for those of us providing health care in the community, it is a town with a plain old all-American gap in health care. We have great health care for those with great health insurance and we have neighbors who can’t afford health care at all. Many don’t realize that our generous community invests tremendous energy and time into bridging that gap. Last week at McPolin Elementary we had an event that represented the best of Park City’s forward thinking and how much needs to be done to bridge the gap in American health care.
