February 15-23, 2014 - Mixco, San Pedro & San Pablo
A group of 15 volunteers recently returned from a nine-day humanitarian expedition to several underserved areas of Guatemala. Volunteers on this expedition included local Utahns of all ages, several Hope Alliance Board members and even a couple from Oklahoma volunteering on their third Hope Alliance trip in a year! Traveling to the city of Mixco first, the team worked tirelessly to complete three days of vision clnics and provided basic eye examinations to more than 750 local individuals. Most patients received recycled prescription eyeglasses, positive readers or negative diopters to correct their visual impairments. The team then traveled by boat to the more remote villages of San Pedro and San Pablo, where they served over 250 people during 1 1/2 days of clinics. The energetic team enjoyed meeting and serving the 1,000 wonderful people they assisted throughout the vision expedition and most can’t wait to volunteer again for a future expedition. The Hope Alliance would like to thank all the wonderful volunteers, in-country partners and supporters who made this expedition successful!
