On January 30th, we had the wonderful opportunity to offer our second vision clinic to refugees that live in the City of South Salt Lake. Through our partnership with Promise South Salt Lake, a United Way initiative that aligns multiple agencies together to offer a highly impactful and sustainable infrastructure for community advancement, we were able to serve patients on a cold and blustery day.
Our group of 21 volunteers, which included some of our favorite eye doctors, Dr. Keith Linford and Dr. Lynn Stromness, friends from Promise South Salt Lake and THA volunteers were able to serve people from 13 different countries including Burma, Kenya, Somalia, Mexico, Bhutan, The Congo, Sierra Leone, Thailand, Iraq, Cote d’Ivoire, Nepal and more! We performed eye exams on 62 patients and gave out 100 pair of eyeglasses.
Our vision program offers opportunities for people to gain access to re-purposed prescription eyeglasses that have been donated and diverted from the waste stream. We do our best to offer eyesight to as many people as we can. We also offer opportunities for local people to volunteer their time serving in their own communities.
